Surroundings

Finca Pura Vida is located in a quiet spot in the Andalusian countryside, just outside the charming white mountain village of Gaucin.
1.5 hours drive from Malaga or an hour from Gibraltar and Ronda.

La Hoya

Thirty years ago, sixteen English friends bought a piece of land in the outskirts of Gaucin. They all built their own house. What struck them was the silence and the space. This microclimate turned out to be the ultimate place, so that the heat of 30 + feels very pleasant in combination with the wonderful breeze. In winter it is therefore also very pleasant to stay. It is expected that it will be very dry, but this part, also called The Pearl of Andalusia, shows just the opposite. You understand that it was love at first sight for us.

Gaucin

Gaucín is one of the white villages in Andalusia. The village is about a thirty minute drive from the Costa del Sol. Gaucín is located in a breathtaking area and is also called the gateway to Serranía de Ronda, a beautiful nature reserve. With a location at more than six hundred meters in Gaucín you often have a beautiful view. With good weather you can even see North Africa. The village itself is a small maze of narrow streets where you constantly discover new squares.

Rivers and lakes

Beautiful blue green lakes or streams. Andalusia has them and we discovered some. What a find! After a walk of about an hour you arrive at a place where the water is crystal clear where the fish swim curiously towards you. On the way there you sometimes imagine yourself in the tropics, a bit of Africa and that in southern Spain. And then… you are there and you will be richly rewarded with the wonderfully refreshing water that you really don’t want to get out of anymore.

To the coast

The beaches of Manilva and Estepona are easily accessible from the house. After a beautiful route through the hills of Andalusia, you are drawn to the green-blue sea like a magnet. Once arrived, it is good to stay at Restaurant La Sal. You feel right at home and are well and friendly helped by the charming service. And the food is delicious too! You can also drive a bit further to Estepona. The old town, which is an absolute attraction, is also located by the sea.

Special cities & villages

Gaucin is surrounded by more picturesque white villages such as Algatocin, Genalguacil and Jimena de la Frontera. On the way to the historic city of Ronda or Cadiz you will find many more. Such as Sentenil de las Bodegas, a village that is completely built into the rocks. Recently we were in Vejer de la Frontera and we find that village very interesting because of the clear Moorish remains and the nice shops and restaurants. Special cities such as Ronda (1 hour and 15 minutes), Malaga (1 hour and 40 minutes) or Cadiz (1 hour and 50 minutes) are good for a day trip from Gaucin.

To walk

For those who enjoy walking, this is a beautiful area to walk to your heart’s content. There are so many options that choosing is difficult. A magazine has even been published with more than 140 walks in and around Gaucin.

The GR141 runs from Ronda to Gaucin and is highly recommended. Parque Natural los Alcornocales is located between Jimena de la Frontera and the coast at Cadiz and is also a wonderful walking area. The months of September to June are the best for long walks.
